JoAnn Braheny
JoAnn Braheny’s career started as Atlanta's first full-time female radio D.J.. She honed her skills doing on-air interviews with Dennis Hopper, Peter Max, Harry Chapin, Otto Preminger, Sen. Ted Kennedy and others. She was lured from broadcasting to Top 40 promotion for GRC Records. Her D.J. experience and being a woman in a (then) male-dominated business gave her an unexpected advantage calling on national radio music directors. JoAnn was soon drafted into the music publishing division working with songwriters and their creative process. Assisting songwriters with their career development became a passion, so much so that when GRC closed, JoAnn opened her own consulting and music publishing company. As owner of Jaffe Music Consulting she provided ongoing career direction to new and veteran songwriters, and worked with record producers and recording artists. During that time she became a founding officer of the Atlanta Songwriters Association.
When JoAnn met her husband, John Braheny, music business consultant and Co-founder/Director of the Los Angeles Songwriters Showcase, she moved to Los Angeles and continued working in the entertainment industry. She temped regularly at Billboard magazine, CBS Records, Arista Records, Warner Bros. Studios, ATV Music Publishing, Island Music, ABC-TV, NBC-TV, Dick Clark Productions, The Burbank Studios, the Playboy Mansion and various entertainment law and management firms.
JoAnn worked full time for Rogers & Cowan Public Relations as a liaison between their international celebrities and music clients and the entertainment press and media.
JoAnn's history of working with creative people took a new turn when she was hired by the Talent Development department of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), the famed think-tank that creates Disney's theme parks. She designed and implemented a computer tracking system that provided instant access to the myriad of creative skills found at WDI. This database, created via one-on-one interviews with hundreds of Disney artists, cataloging their skills, preferences and work styles, is still utilized in the areas of career path work and team-building. She worked with and apprenticed with the top experts in the field of creativity.
JoAnn currently is a creative career counselor, available for one-on-one sessions as well as creative process seminars for musicians, artists, and songwriters. She also presents management-level workshops for companies, organizations and schools, in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Kansas City, Nashville, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Rochester, N.Y., Phoenix, Eugene, Oregon, Sacramento, Palo Alto, Austin, Denver, Boston, New Haven, San Diego, Bismarck, Vancouver, B.C., Bermuda, Salt Lake City, Houston, Oklahoma City and Honolulu.
